"Split Screen will have an opening party *this Sunday* for its newest installations: "Random Walk" by Selavy Oh, and "Inverted Paths" by Kolor Fall. The installations open to the public on Sunday, 31 July, and run through 31 Aug. >>> OPENING PARTY <<< will be Sunday, 31 July, at 2:00 PM SLT. The DJ will be the fantastic Isabelle Mavendorf" states curator Dividni Shostakovich.

July 31st opens the Split Screen exhibits "Random Walk" by Selavy Oh and "Inverted Paths" by Kolor Fall. Miso Susanowa still has "Time as a Helix of Semi-Precious Stones" on the sky platform as well. (See prior blog post with machinima)

I dropped into Split Screen early to chat with Divi and have a sneak peek before the official opening on July 31st. The only problem with coming early is that the note cards are not available yet and Kolor's works are sometimes deep, often mathematical, and have meanings I don't always easily understand without him explaining what he is intending. From what I could see Kolor's "Inverted Paths" is a darker area of shapes that to me resemble some sorts of sea life, inverted 3d triangles, bubbles, and parts that seem to follow me when I walk. It does look cool and I guess it's ok to run around in it as it's parts move all over and his works are usually designed like that to play in. Selavy's "Random Walk" on the other hand is a light area in the air, of "continuously changing algorithmic installation belonging to a series of permutative spatiotemporal works. visitors can actively influence the evolution of the installation by flying through it or can incorporate the avatar into the work by 'sitting' on one of the elements." V2 with shadows is recommended but I just can't bear it so I apologize if my photo is not up to snuff really. It still looked cool to me on Phoenix. OK, so that was a direct quote from Selavy's blog about it. I assume Kolor's would sound similar. To me that means its fun to play in, stuff moves around you and kind of interacts with you. Yeah I admit my explanation is like the "Art appreciation for Dummies" blog. But hey, it works for me. At any rate these two exhibits are very cool and fun so check them out when you get a chance.

Kolor Studio 2011-Grand opening show tonight

http://slurl.com/secondlife/Kolor/35/126/51 or direct link here KolorHere.

Kolor Fall is at it again with a whole new set up in his sim and this time it's multi- level and takes a while to see it all because it is very large, interactive, and so impressive you want to see it all and absorb it. This is 4 levels of fun. No wonder I haven't been seeing him around or hearing from him lately, he must have been very busy. A ground level hosts Blue Angel, Pete's Dive a lounge, there is a underwater level with much glowing sea life by Glyph Graves and art, there is a level with lights and colors all over the place and in one section there is a grouping of Kolor's RL art but it is interactive. I was so pleased to have one of his works slowly begin to float blocks of it out in the air out and around me when I clicked on it. There is a grand opening tonight at 6SLT. Be sure to click everything as many of the works of art hold gifts and surprises.

Their note card in part here.... "Kolor Studio 2011
Thanks to all the many people that worked and helped on the sim, for 2011.
(This sim is a Filming zone, where people do Machinima, so don't do anything your not comfortable having a million people see)

A lot will be happening in the Kolor Studio in 2011, we have just completed a two sim wide build, but that's just the start of things

Main Level:
Kolor Install's, Glyph Graves Underwater Area, Puddles of Light Sim
Most things are interactive at this level. Back by popular demand, the Dance Cubes - just sit on them, height controller is a pink stick.
To Draw, just mouse click over the paintings.
Who Knows what the other stuff does(and some things even give gifts when u click on them).

Puddles of Light Install - new 2011 Sim Wide "Art Game"
Also on the main level, but a Sim level interactive piece.
Fly into the "puddle movers" to modify the land -
Walk next to puddle light to start building structure -
Puddles is a interactive piece, run by differential equations that simulate life and neural networks, that interact with avatars.
The ground (which is modifiable), defines a chaotic field which the equations play with (moving puddles light).
The structure that moves up into the sky, slowly changes over days, as people play with the light.
[note there is a 6 avatar limit in that sim, due to performance reasons]
you can view where the puddles are going ... by looking over the waterfall's from the main sim.

Lounge
Sim wide Structure & benches by Scarp Godenought with my collection of White Lebed's Sculptures (I have most of her major pieces that cover this level of the sim).

Blue Angel Poet's Dive
Poetry group meets every sunday at 5 pm. Park and install done by various artists (Hyapatia Pickens, Taylor Danick, Kolor ).
Park and Blue Angel Building Done by Nickola Martynov and Nestra Careless"

Kolor Fall-sim opening party tonight
Here's how Kolor looks today

Turing Gallery, Extropia Core

Kolor and Kara (me)Kolor in Extropia_019

Friday, August 20 I visited the opening of the interactive installation Extropia Turing Gallery, Extropia.
L1Aura Loire and Maya Paris' contributions were in the annex gallery (underwater) and Kolor Fall' in the main gallery. Kolor looked like a huge stack of cubes and Maya had on the Mer-mechanic suit. They suggested I get a free Mer-mechanic suit and a free exhibition catalog which I did.

After I picked the free items, Kolor gave me a tour of his work. He had a couple of new paintings up and then the showcase was floating cubes and encryption stuff that I didn't fully understand but knew that it was cool and I liked it. Kolor was patient and explained he's always had an enfinity for Turing's encryption. Kolor advised me chat was being recorded and sure enough whatever I locally typed instantly became part of the exhibit floating in the air temporarily. The cubes moved around and clumped and eventually I told Kolor I loved it, but wondered if he had a notecard, and he passed me one. I will quote it here:

"In general, my art creates in the observers mind an emergent keyed space, that is a spacial fabric in the persons neural network. Tension in this keyed space allows emergent paths to be created and destroyed in the observers mind, within the framework on the key that is placed in the artwork. This keyed space in the observers mind may be persistent, as they leave the install, to hopefully assist them as active observers in the physical world.
----
I normally do a small poem with my install ...

"Keys"

Tension - Emergence of space
Keys - Maps removed of form
Time - Creation torn from destruction
Love - Work without insistence"

Next I donned the Mer-mechanic suit and by this time numerous others had gathered outside also in the free suits and we all jumped into the water next to the giant telscope thing. To engage the teleoctoscope we all turned on media and there was a huge structure below with seat-like spots to sit and view sevearl "pods" of different machinima. One of my favorites was of a group of Mer-mechanics dancing. A different machinima could be viewed in each spot.

Flood Relief Benefit for Cypress Rosewood

This evening I joined over 80 other avatars in the French Quarter sim to enjoy some back to back live music by some of SL's most popular musicians raising donations for Cypress Rosewood, whose home has been ravaged by the TN flooding. I made a short vid of one of my favs Skye Galaxy and a friend of mine, Kolor Fall, who were up consecutively. By the time I left there was almost $400,000L in the tips jars and more music left in the lineup to come.

Cypress himself showed up for a short time and talked about how he was away from home when his wife and daughter had to rush to leave the house, how he had seen a black crow just prior and wondered if it was a sign, how a special guitar was saved when many thigs around it were a total loss, and some of his observations and feelings about the flooding. He said he most likely would not be able to be back in full swing in SL for a few weeks because of the flooding and losses. I previously had a note telling how the flooding was up to the window sills in his home. I'm sure this is a very traumatic time for him and his family and hope everyone has a chance to donate to this gentleman who has been very supportive of SL musicians.

There will be another live music benefit 5-8-10 from 4 to 12 SLT at The Pocket Freestar Bay Isle/216/32/24.. At 7:45 SLT Azar Shelman, friend to Cypress (Tony Dyson, the man who built R2D2 RL) will do a Q&A session annd pass out gifts to the audience. Another artist I look forward to seeing is ColeMarie Soliel at 6pm SLT.

If you haven't heard Cypress before, he's a RL/SL live musician himself and a RL/SL radio host. To tip direction go to: http://www.Cypressrosewood.com

Below is a quick little vid I took between crashes with the newly installed updated viewer and yes I did overlap Skye's music becuase I thought it was cool and he hit the high notes.
