Machinima Book and Rez Day Celebrations!

book
Today is a special day for two of my friends, Lowe Runo and Sonicity Fitzroy. First of all Lowe, otherwise known to many as machinima man, is celebrating his 5th SL rez day today. On top of that the publisher has released pre-order information for the book, "Machinima, The Art and Practice of Virtual Filmmaking" co-authored by Lowe and his business partner and great friend, Sonicity, otherwise known to me as word-woman for her many previously published books, articles, and multitude of RL and SL writings. They both have worked hard and have accomplished a lot and I'm very proud of them and also proud to call them friends. This should be a very happy day for them and so I want to pass on their information here but plan to provide more information when the book is actually released some time later this fall. Many Second Life residents were interviewed and mentioned so we can look forward to seeing names we recognize.

Pre-orders can be made now and I've ordered and am waiting for my copy. : ) You can pre-order here: http://www.mcfarlandpub.com/book-2.php?id=978-0-7864-6171-4 or direct link here: SoniLoweBOOKorderHere.

If you want more info. on these two I previously blogged a great deal about them over a year ago when Lowe Runo Productions, LLC was established in SL. More info. here: http://karasecondlife.blogspot.com/2010/05/lowe-runo-productions-llc.html direct link here: LoweSoniHere.

I'm posting a couple of casual pics I took of them. Don't forget to congratulate them both and wish Lowe a happy rez day while you are at it.

Play Time With Kara: Machinima Tips

My buddy Lowe Runo, machinima man, was helping me learn how to use my 3DConnexion Space Navigator and made this video using me/my avatar, to show me how it does the slow panning and movements that I need to work on. The space navigator is a glorified kind of 3D mouse that looks like a doorknob and allows for wonderful smooth panning movements essential for realistic looking machinima. He can do a lot with his, but as a novice I've been avoiding it after my initial attempts where I really didn't have control of it. He and others tell me once used to it the space navigator is something a person loves whether for machinima or just playing. You can find out more about it here: http://www.3dconnexion.com/products/spacenavigator.html or direct link here: SpaceNavHere.

Lowe Runo Productions are creators of both animated video graphic features and real world media including production and post production services. If you follow my blog or search it you can see I've posted quite a bit about them and their various work previously. Lowe is absolutely amazing with his space navigator and you can find more of his machinima on Vimeo, Youtube or the teasers and shorts on Flickr plus various other places on the web depending on the content and sites. He is currently also doing real/first life filming and just finished a book on machinima due out later this fall. He and his business partner, Sonicity Fitzroy, have done a lot in the way of education about machinima and although Lowe has released some amazing machinima their focus this past year has been on a lot of education, conferences, the book and such. For some of the best machinima tips around check out this site they developed: http://www.machinimaguild.com/ ...or direct link here and click on the video tab, plus some of the other tabs provide links to great resources for sound and equipment and other tips.
